Women’s golf completes Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational

Kate Petrova ties for 12th

 

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Recording an even score of 72 in Sunday’s final round, Kate Petrova tied for 12th place to pace the University of Evansville women’s golf team at the Rio Verde Collegicate Invitational at White Wing Golf Course at Rio Verde Country Club.

Petrova’s 3-round score of 217 saw her earn the best finish for the Purple Aces.  Her top effort of the weekend was a 2-under 70 in the second round.  Finishing second for UE was Allison Enchelmayer.  She tied her low round of the weekend with a 75 in the last round and tied for 50th with a 226.

Finishing four strokes behind Enchelmayer was Destynie Sheridan.  Her lowest score of the weekend saw her card a 74 in the final 18 to finish the tournament with a 230.  She tied for 65th place.  Jane Grankina and Magdalena Borisova rounded out UE’s top five.  Grankina posted a 77 on Sunday, matching her low score of the event.  Her 3-roud tally of 236 tied her for 87th.  Borisova scored a 90 on Sunday to wrap up the tournament with a 256.

Evansville came home in 16th in the final team standings with a 905.  They came in one shot ahead of Western Michigan.  Cal Baptist took the team championship with an 865.  Xavier and Illinois State tied for second with scores of 870.

Alo Schrock of the Redbirds was the medalist.  Her 2-under 70 in the third round bested Kennesaw State’s Bella Kil by one stroke.  Schrock’s total finish at 211.

Next up for the Aces is the Nevel Meade Invitational in Prospect, Ky. on March 18-19.
