LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Vincennes University Bowling team had another excellent showing this weekend at the annual Boilermaker Classic hosted at Arrowhead Bowl in Lafayette Saturday and Sunday.
The VU Varsity team came away with a seventh place finish out of 13 teams competing, while the Junior Varsity team placed fourth out of seven after five traditional games Saturday and 16 baker games on Sunday.
The Vincennes Varsity team was led by freshman Cayden Russell (Noblesville, Ind.), who finished with an individual score of 981 in five games, for a scoring average of 196.2 per game.
Russell placed 18th overall on the individual leaderboard out of 130 bowlers competing over the weekend.
Freshman Kannon King (Salem, Ill.) was a very close second, finishing with 977 pins in five games and an average of 195.4 per game for 21st overall.
Freshman Dakota Waskom (Louisville, Ky.) was the next VU varsity finisher, ending with 762 pins in four games with an average score of 190.5 per game.
Junior Brighton Lucas (Salem, Ill.) and freshman Nicholas Gregg (Salem, Ill.) were the next Trailblazer scorers, with Lucas ending with 616 pins in four games and Gregg ending his day with 500 pins in three games.
Freshmen Dylan Lewis (Louisville, Ky.) and Jon Starr (Centralia, Ill.) rounded out the VU varsity bowlers with Lewis knocking down 410 pins in two games, including a varsity team-high game of 248 and Starr closed out with 324 pins in two games.
The VU varsity team came away with a team score of 4,570 in the five traditional games and a score of 3,019 in 16 baker games Sunday to finish with a tournament total of 7,589 pins.
The Vincennes Junior Varsity team was led by an outstanding day by sophomore Carson McDivitt (Richmond, Ind.) who finished with 931 pins in five games, including a Trailblazer team-high game of 265. McDivitt would place 30th overall.
Sophomore Caleb Lanning (Lawrenceville, Ill.) was the second VU JV bowler, ending with 818 pins in five games for an average of 163.6 pins per game and a 49th overall finish.
Freshman Haydn Hunt (Kokomo, Ind.) was the third finisher for the VU JV team, coming away with 738 pins in four games for an average game score of 184.5.
Sophomore Ethan Staples (Columbus, Ind.) and Freshman Josiah Wilkerson (Princeton, Ind.) were the next VU finishers, with Staples ending with 691 pins in four games and Wilkerson knocking down 635 pins in four games.
Freshman Ethan Ennis (Kokomo, Ind.) rounds out the VU weekend after recording 462 pins in three games Saturday.
The VU Junior Varsity team came away with a team score Saturday of 4,275, along with 2,749 pins in 16 baker games Sunday for a tournament total of 7,024 good for fourth out of seven Junior Varsity teams.
The Trailblazers will now have a week to prepare for their next tournament, when VU heads to Columbus, Ohio for the American Heartland Bowling Association tournament Saturday, Nov. 4 at Wayne’s Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
