Lanier

October 9, 1926 The James F. D. Lanier Mansion in Madison becomes a State Memorial. During the Civil War, Lanier loaned money to the state to prevent bankruptcy.


October 11, 1957 Visitors enjoy the first Parke County Covered Bridge Festival.

Wooden October 14, 1910 Johnny Wooden is born in Hall, Indiana.  He gains fame as a basketball coach, taking UCLA to 10 championships

October 14  1925 Samuel Ralston dies at the age of 67. As the 28th Governor of Indiana, he began the state park system Ralston

Edison Fall of 1864 Thomas Edison started his job as a telegraph operator for Western Union Telegraph Company, at Union Station in Indianapolis.
