We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way City-County Observer Comment Policy. We understand that sometimes people don’t always agree and discussions may become a little heated.  The use of offensive language and insults against commenters will not be tolerated and will be removed from our site.

IS IT TRUE  that on July 28, 2019, the City-County Observer posted an article covering a new health report about lead and arsenic-contaminated soil in Evansville that says Vanderburgh County children have higher blood lead levels compared to statewide numbers?  …that a public health assessment conducted by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a federal public health agency, said Vanderburgh’s high blood lead levels in children indicate there is a higher exposure to lead and that it is a health hazard?  …that It casts the high blood lead levels as an environmental justice issue, linking the risk of exposure in some of the city’s most affected areas to aging housing, poverty, and race?.  …that the report states that a large percentage of residents living in the Jacobsville contamination area live in older housing where there can be lead in a yard, paint, and plumbing?  …that during the last four years, the City of Evansville elected officials didn’t directly address the lead, arsenic-contaminate soil issues in the Jacobsville area?  …that we are pleased to hear that the Feds may be addressing this serious health issue in the Jascobville area once again?

IS IT TRUE the stark reality is that newspapers across the country are victims of large investment groups that have cut talented writers and reporters from their employment, alienated advertisers, and produced irrelevant biased narratives?…at this rate, there will only be a handful of newspapers still in print in the United States in 10 years
IS IT TRUE if business owners run their businesses like the government does they would be bankrupt in a short time?
IS IT TRUE that political pundits are telling us that the race for the Mayor of Evansville will be extremely close?  …that political pundits also tell us that the Libertarian Party candidate for Mayor and the loyal supporters of County Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave will play an important role in determining who will be elected as the next Mayor of Evansville?
IS IT TRUE that a lot of speculation about where the outgoing Mayor Of Evansville, Lloyd Winencke will be employed once his term ends? …that he could be employed as a well-paid Executive for a Regional bank? …that he could be the Chief Of Staff for the next Indiana Governor?  …that he could be a well-paid political lobbyist for a major Indiana Corporation?  …that he could be hired as a well-paid CEO of a Regional not-for-profit organization that promotes Economic Development?
IS IT TRUE that the political infighting within the Democratic party of Vanderburgh back in 2011 split the party for many years?  …that the Democratic party infighting of 2011 literally destroyed the cohesiveness that the Democrats enjoyed for many years? …because of the pro-active leadership of the Democratic Party Central Committee of Vanderburgh County, things are finally beginning to head in the right direction?
IS IT TRUE that the local Republican party is currently experiencing serious political infighting within its ranks? …that political pundits are predicting that local Republican party leadership will one day regret that they showed favoritism towards one of the  Mayoral candidates listed on the recent primary election ballot? …that the political favoritism shown by the Republican party hierarchy has created the current political infighting? …that political pundits also predict that the local Republican party leadership will have a serious challenge of convincing fellow Republicans to vote a straight party ticket in the upcoming General election?
IS IT TRUE that the taxpayers hope that the Evansville Mayoral and City Council candidates will request that City Controller Russ Lloyd Jr give them an accurate breakdown of how much has the city taxpayers paid to help subsidize the serious losses at the Ford Center during the last five (5) years?  …that this is a simple income versus expense accounting request?
IS IT TRUE that the taxpayers of Evansville hope that the candidates running for Mayor and City Council positions in the upcoming General election will be able to explain in detail how they are going to improve the serious morale problems at the Evansville Police Department; correct the major maintenance issues at our neighborhood parks; come up with a solution to fix the serious financial losses at the Ford Center; and come up with an affordable and workable plan to repair our crumbling streets?
IS IT TRUE that local political pundits are telling us that several City Of Evansville’s City Council races will be extremely close?  …that we are told that the contests in political Wards One (1), Two (2), and Three (3) could turn into a real political dogfight?  …that we are also told if either political party wins two (2) of the above three (3) City Council races they will control City Council for the next for years?
IS IT TRUE that law enforcement professionals have borne the brunt of the blame for the increase in violence during the “defund the police” movement?  …that the misguided “defund the police” movement poisoned the atmosphere in many American cities to the point that police officials have been restricted to do their jobs by weak politicians?  …that the City-County Observer unconditionally supports members of our law enforcement?
IS IT TRUE that it is seldom that the federal government does something that accomplishes exactly what it was meant to at the price that was advertised?…it is also true that most government programs exist perpetually even after they have accomplished what was intended?…there are even laws on the books that should have been canceled or rescinded years ago for obsolescence?…one local community in their zeal to be like the federal government still has a law on the books forbidding the riding of a stud bull in front of a church on Sunday morning?
IS IT TRUE that we would like to thank Kemberie Weightman of the EPD for sending us the EPD Daily Activity Reports?
IS IT TRUE that we would like to thank EPD Communication Director Sergeant Anne Gray, for sending us important “Breaking News”  concerning violent crimes happening in our City?
IS IT TRUE that Rachel Buyher, Administrative Assistant for the Vanderburgh County Commissioners’ Office is doing a good job in sending us pertinent information about the happenings at County Commission meetings?
IS IT TRUE that Emily Kemper the Ticketing Service Manager at the ONEP is doing a credible job?
IS IT TRUE we would like to recognize Ginger Patton with the Vanderburgh County Health Department for sending us the Weekly Death Reports in a timely manner?
IS IT  TRUE that we appreciate Ellora Daily, Administrative Outreach Coordinator for the Vanderburgh County Prosecuting Attorney office for sending us current news concerning the happenings at the Prosecuting Attorney’s office?

  2. Not surprising but glad to see the see First Ward City Council mentioned here! The current 1st Ward City Councilman Ben Troutman has been the biggest disappointment in Evansville’s local political history!! He never returns phone calls or follows up!!!!! He’s also very arrogant! This dud needs to go.
