Taxes are due Tuesday, April 18. Visit the Department of Revenue’s website for more information on this tax season. Below are some additional resources for Hoosiers, those on social security, and business owners.
File Your Taxes For Free
Qualifying Hoosiers can file their federal and state taxes for free through INfreefile. Review the list of participating INfreefile vendors, compare vendor offers and select an offer that works for you by clicking here.
ATR Available for Hoosiers on Social Security
Indiana is on track to return nearly $1.5 billion to Hoosiers thanks to our state’s automatic taxpayer refund (ATR) law. Most taxpayers received their refund via either electronic direct deposit or mailed check in the fall of 2022.
However, social security income recipients need to file a 2022 income tax return this year (before the end of the calendar year 2023) in order to receive the $200 refundable credit they are entitled to receive under a law passed in August.
Social security income recipients may also be eligible for additional tax relief through the Unified Tax Credit for the Elderly, which is also a refundable state tax credit.
To learn more about these benefits, and to find the appropriate forms to submit, visit the Indiana Department of Revenue website.
Tax Relief for Small Businesses
The General Assembly recently passed Senate Enrolled Act 2, which changes state tax law so LLCs and S Corps can deduct all state tax payments on federal tax returns, resulting in what may be $50 million per year in federal tax savings for Hoosier small businesses.
Eligible businesses can take advantage of this new law on 2022 taxes being filed this year, and Hoosiers are urged to consult their tax advisors for details. Click here for more information on the bill. |
