The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center (SICTC), in collaboration with Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (SWI-AHEC), is hosting a one-week summer public health camp, Go Viral: Be a Disease Detective, for students currently in the eighth grade in Gibson, Spencer, Posey, Vanderburgh, and Warrick counties who are interested in exploring health-related career fields. The camp, scheduled for June 2-6, 2014, is a half-day (morning) program that will focus on topics related to disease outbreaks, as well as public health history, principles and careers. Participants will learn about:
- Basic epidemiology
- Disease outbreak investigation
- Disease tracking
- Integration of public health with medical care
- Variety of careers involved in public health
Participants will conduct an outbreak investigation, as well as interact with public health professionals. Cost for the summer camp is $20 per participant.
