Award-Winning Author Next Presenter In SPEAK: An Explorative Lecture Series 

Evansville, IN, September 12, 2022 – Award-winning and New York Times bestselling author Carole Lindstrom will be the next featured presenter in Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library’s SPEAK: An Explorative Lecture Series. 

On Saturday, October 15 at 2:00 pm in the Browning Rooms of EVPL Central, Carole Lindstrom will speak about her book, We Are Water Protectors, and her experiences as a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe Indians. 

“We Are Water Protectors is a beautiful book full of watercolor illustrations and highlights how we all play a role in preserving our natural resources,” EVPL’s Programming Manager Erika Qualls Barnett said. “We hope by highlighting this book, our community will be inspired to work together to protect our environment, as they do in the story 

We Are Water Protectors is the 2021 Caldecott Medal winner, awarded to the most distinguished American picture book for children. 

Prior to Carole Lindstrom’s visit, EVPL librarians will visit local schools to read We Are Water Protectors and complete a craft inspired by the book’s message of environmental stewardship. All students’ creations will be on display during the program on October 15. 

Other programs for library users of all ages will be held in October to explore the topics in We Are Water Protectors. 

SPEAK: An Explorative Lecture Series is a lecture and discussion series that brings in authors and thought leaders. EVPL hopes through the SPEAK initiative to further our vision of communities united through shared exploration and understanding by supporting and encouraging conversation.
