Indy Facility Reaches Settlement with EPA
INDIANAPOLIS—Metalworking Lubricants Co. has reached a settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for a total of $310,000.The Indianapolis facility, two miles south of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management Office, allegedly violated the Clean Air Act by emitting over 25 tons of hazardous air pollutants every year, among other things.
“This is good news for central Indiana, and the improvements required by this consent decree will result in cleaner air for the community,†said IDEM Commissioner Brian Rockensuess. “Through our partnership with EPA, we were able to resolve these outstanding Clean Air Act violations.â€
The Clean Air Act previously caused headlines in Indiana this summer when the EPA announced Lake and Floyd counties met the standard for ground-level ozone.
Last year, reported The Chicago Tribune, Indiana led “the nation in toxic pollution emitted per square mile.”
