Sporting Southern Indiana Hosts 37th Annual Classic Soccer Tournament
Evansville, IN – May 2, 2022 – 2022 marks the 37th year of the Classic Soccer Tournament in Southern Indiana. Hosted by Sporting Southern Indiana, the event will be held at Goebel Soccer Complex in Evansville on May 7 and 8. The tournament boasts 70 teams from across Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee and will host players ranging in ages from 8 to 18 years old. Over 2,000 attendees are expected to the area, generating an estimated $289,439 in economic impact to the region.
“The Classic tournament represents our largest fundraiser for our club. We view this event as not only an opportunity to help our players and families as a fundraiser, but we also see it as an opportunity to showcase the community. By partnering with Visit Evansville, we’re able to do just that. Like most organizations we are only as strong as the communities we live in, which makes this event important for all of us,†said George Day, President and Executive Director of Sporting Southern IndianaSporting Southern Indiana was founded in 1984 as the Southwest Indiana Soccer Association, commonly referred to as SWISA. In March of 2015, the group joined as the 14th Academy Affiliate in the Sporting Club Network and rebranded as Sporting Southern Indiana. They are the only organization in the state of Indiana which serves as an affiliate to Sporting Kansas City, a professional soccer club out of Kansas City, Missouri, and part of Major League Soccer.
