Winders notches two wins to pace Eagles in outdoor opener

MURRAY, Ky.—Sophomore Silas Winders (Mansfield, Tennessee) raced to victories in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters Saturday to lead University of Southern Indiana Men’s Track & Field in its outdoor season-opener at the Margaret Simmons Invite.
 
Winders finished the 1,500 meters in three minutes, 58.30 seconds and the 800 meters in 1:56.46. His wins propelled the Screaming Eagles to a sixth-place finish with a team score of 45 points.
 
Senior Austin Nolan (Evansville, Indiana) and freshman Brady Terry (Philpot, Kentucky) aided the Eagles’ efforts with respective finishes of second and fifth in the 1,500 meters, while junior Josh Kaminski (Lafayette, Indiana) and sophomore Kyle Crone (Maryville, Illinois) scored for the Eagles in the javelin and triple jump, respectively.
 
Kaminski was fourth in the javelin with a heave of 133 feet, four inches, while Crone was sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 43’08.50″.
 
USI returns to action April 1-2 when it competes at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Lake Strike Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
