EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball cruised to a 90-59 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over visiting McKendree University Monday evening in Evansville, Indiana.
The Screaming Eagles (11-2, 5-0 GLVC) had 14 players make scoring contributions, including eight players with at least six points and four players in double-figures.
USI used a 19-5 run throughout the final six minutes of the opening period as it built a 29-17 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Eagles extended that lead to 47-27 by the intermission and led 71-43 after three periods of play.
Fifth-year senior guard Ashley Hunter (Flossmoor, Illinois) had 12 points to lead the Eagles, while sophomore forward Meredith Raley (Haubstadt, Indiana) added 11 points and a team-leading eight rebounds.
The Eagles also got a season-high 11 points from junior guard Soffia Rieckers (Evansville, Indiana) as well as a season-high 10 points, seven rebounds from junior forward Tara Robbe (Wildwood, Missouri).
USI’s bench outscored McKendree’s reserves 56-15, while USI held a 50-30 rebounding advantage.
Sophomore guard Christy Fortune paced the Bearcats with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds, while freshman guard Clare Breden contributed 13 points.
USI returns to action Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when it hosts the University of Illinois Springfield in a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The Prairie Stars (8-5, 3-4 GLVC) defeated Maryville University, 68-58, Monday evening in Springfield, Illinois.
