Y&E MLK Day Mural Reveal

The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana invites you to attend a mural unveiling at Y&E at noon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The 660-square-foot mural was paid for by a Community Art Fund grant from the Arts Council. Indianapolis artist Ashley Nora painted the mural, which features several prominent Black figures. Nora will be at Monday’s unveiling.

EVANSVILLE — Y&E and the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana will reveal a new mural featuring several prominent Black figures on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Y&E commissioned the mural, which was paid for by a grant from the Arts Council. The mural is inside of Y&E’s community center at 1308 Vann Ave.

The title of the 55-foot by 12-foot mural is “I’m Rooting for Everybody Black.” The colorful

the mural incorporates several Black politicians, artists, and athletes, including Barack and Michelle

Obama, Tupac Shakur, Muhammed Ali, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and a dozen more.

Indianapolis artist Ashley Nora painted the mural in ten days. Nora designed parts of the mural to “pop” when wearing 3-D glasses.

Monday’s mural unveiling is closed to the public due to public safety measures. Attendees are required to wear masks.
