EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville freshman swimmer Daniel Santos Lopez (Madrid, Spain) has been named the Mid-American Conference male swimmer of the week after an impressive showing over the weekend in UE’s dual meet against Saint Louis University.
Santos Lopez won two individual events and led off two winning relay teams in UE’s 154-135 victory over the Billikens. Santos Lopez won the 100-yard backstroke by nearly three seconds, as he clocked in with a time of 51.45. He also took first in the 100-yard freestyle by two seconds, with a time of 46.74.
Santos Lopez led off UE’s winning 200 Medley Relay team which posted the Purple Aces’ first-ever event victory at the new Deaconess Aquatic Center. He also went a blistering 20.87 as the first leg of UE’s 200 Free Relay squad which cemented the Purple Aces’ victory over SLU.
Santos Lopez is the first Purple Ace to earn MAC Swimmer of the Week honors since senior Oskar Menkhaus did so on October 2, 2019. Evansville is currently competing in the three-day A3 Performance Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois this weekend.
