Supporting Local Farmers This Holiday Season
As we head into the holiday season, I hope you consider shopping and exploring local spots to support our farmers and agritourism businesses.
Whether it’s chopping down your Christmas tree at Sycamore Valley Tree Farm or ordering winter sausage and baked goods from Mayse Farm Market, supporting local growers, producers and artisans helps our local families and economy. You can plan your next adventure at visitindiana.com/agritourism and source locally made or produced goods at IndianaGrown.org.
I recently had a great opportunity to visit a farm in Warrick County to learn more about this harvest season and issues impacting our farm families. As your state representative, I’m committed to helping our farmers stay competitive and keeping our rich agricultural history alive.
Did you know? In Vanderburgh and Warrick counties alone, over 600 farms generate more than $90 million in products annually, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture report.
Indiana’s farmers help feed the world and our economy, and we’ve made progress in supporting them. Indiana recently passed legislation to help farm families obtain affordable health care options. Indiana Farm Bureau offers a new health plan, which covers essential health benefits, such as office visits, preventative services, and maternity and newborn care.
I respect and appreciate the hard work and long hours our Hoosier farmers put in every day. I hope you will join me in supporting our local farmers and agricultural-related businesses this holiday season.
Sincerely,
Tim O’Brien
State Representative
