Eagles Complete Homestand This Week​​​​​​​

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men’s Soccer completes its season-opening homestand Friday and Sunday when it hosts Davenport University for Midwest Region match-up and McKendree University to open the Great Lakes Valley Conference slate at Strassweg Field. Match time Friday versus Davenport is 11 a.m. and Sunday against McKendree is noon.

USI Men’s Soccer Week 2 Notes:

USI has rough start: The Screaming Eagles had a rough and tumble start to 2021, falling to Oakland City University, 2-0, Sunday. USI was originally scheduled to open the season versus Cedarville University September 2 at Strassweg, but the match was postponed due to COVID.

Santoro is USI’s all-time leader: Head Coach Mat Santoro became the program’s all-time leader in victories (104) last season, breaking the mark that was held by former Head Coach Tony Colavecchia. Santoro, who has a 104-88-22 overall record at the helm, has guided the Eagles to a pair of NCAA II Tournament appearances; the 2018 GLVC regular season crown, and seven GLVC Tournament appearances during his tenure.

Davenport in 2021: Davenport has opened 2021, 0-2-0, dropping both matches to a pair of GLVC teams. The Panthers opened the season with a 3-2 loss at the University of Illinois Springfield and dropped their second match of the season, 2-1, at ninth-ranked Maryville University.

USI versus Davenport: The Eagles won the first and only meeting with the Davenport Panthers in 2018, 3-2, in overtime. Former USI All-American Sean Rickey had a pair of goals and an assist in the victory.

Eagles and GLVC in 2021: USI is predicted to finish sixth this season in 2021.

McKendree in 2021: The Bearcats of McKendree comes to USI Sunday to open the GLVC schedule with a 0-0-2 mark through the first week of the season. McKendree start regular season play with a 1-1 tie versus Ashland University and a 2-2 tie versus Ohio Dominican University. The Bearcats are predicted to place fifth in the GLVC.

USI versus McKendree: USI leads the all-time series with McKendree, 7-5-3, and will be hosting the Bearcats for the first time since the GLVC-opener in 2019. The last match between the two programs was in the 2019 GLVC Tournament semifinals with McKendree taking a 1-0 decision on a neutral field in Louisville, Kentucky.
