Eagles Kick Off 2021 At Home

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women’s Soccer begins the 2021 regular season Thursday when it hosts Trevecca Nazarene University for a 4 p.m. match at Strassweg Field. USI plays three of its first four at home, including the first two matches that includes Trevecca and Walsh University Sunday at noon.

USI Women’s Soccer Week 1 Notes:

USI last spring: In the 2020-21 spring, the Screaming Eagles posted a 12-4-1 overall record, 10-3-1 during the GLVC-only regular season. USI also advanced to the GLVC Tournament championship game for the second-straight year, falling to McKendree University, 5-2.

Schoenstein is second all-time at USI: Head Coach Eric Schoenstein is second all-time at USI with a 53-30-2 five-year mark at the helm of the Eagles. He has led the Eagles to their only GLVC regular season and tournament championships, along with the program’s second trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

USI Offensive Leader: USI sophomore forward Morgan Beyer, a first-team All-GLVC forward, led the team with 18 points last spring on eight goals and two assists. Senior forward and third-team All-GLVC forward Katlyn Andres topped the Eagles in 2020-21 in assists with nine.

Between the posts: Sophomore goalkeeper Maya Etienne begins her third season between the posts for the Eagles. She had a 0.60 goals against average, making 69 saves, and posting a 12-3-1 record last year. Etienne also ranks second all-time at USI with 21 career shutouts in two seasons.

Trevecca Nazarene last year: Trevecca was 4-5-2 overall last spring, falling in the quarterfinals of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.

USI versus Trevecca Nazarene: Thursday’s USI-Trevecca match is the first meeting in women’s soccer between the two programs.

Walsh in 2020-21: The Cavaliers of Walsh were 6-6-0 last spring and fell in the semifinals of the G-MAC to the University of Findlay. Walsh starts its season by hosting Northwood University Thursday at home.

USI versus Walsh: USI and Walsh are tied, 1-1-0, in the all-time series that began in 2018. The Eagles won the second meeting, 4-0, on the road in 2019.
