Evansville, IN, August 6, 2021 – The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is launching a brand new early literacy initiative today for young readers of the community, 300 Books by 3rd Grade.Â
This initiative challenges children (and their grown-ups) to read 300 books by the beginning of their 3rd grade year.Â
“We are so excited to continue to support the young readers in our area,†said Erika Qualls Barnett, EVPL’s Programming Manager. “By creating a strong foundation of reading, the children who participate in these initiatives are one step closer to becoming lifelong learners.â€Â
Once a reader is signed up for the program, they will earn buttons when they have read 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 books!Â
300 Books by 3rd Grade is complementary to 1OOO Books Before Kindergarten, which EVPL has offered since 2019.Â
Readers do not have to complete 1OOO Books Before Kindergarten before beginning 300 Books by 3rd Grade.Â
