Indiana head swimming coach Ray Looze was named to Team USA’s coaching staff for the upcoming Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, USA Swimming announced on Sunday night. Looze will serve as an assistant coach.

“It’s a tremendous opportunity to represent your country at the Olympic Games,” Looze said. “I credit our outstanding coaching staff, administration, and most importantly our swimmers for this honor.”

Over the eight-day Olympic Trials, Indiana put five swimmers through to the Olympics. Two-time gold medalist Lilly King qualified in both the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events. She will be joined by training partner Annie Lazor in the 200m Breaststroke. On the men’s side, Zach Apple and Blake Pieroni each qualified for the games in the 400m Freestyle Relay. Apple will also swim in the 100m Freestyle. Finally, Michael Brinegar earned a spot on the Team USA in both the 800m and 1500m Freestyle.

Looze has prior coaching experience with Team USA, serving as an assistant coach for the women’s team during the Olympic Games 2016 Rio. He was also the head women’s coach at the 2015 World University Games and at the 2014 FINA SC World Championships. Looze also served as an assistant men’s coach at the 2011 Duel in the Pool and at the 2009 World University Games.
