On March 15, around 1:30 a.m. the Evansville Police Department was called to 20 S. Denby for an altercation.  They were updated with info before arriving that a male had been shot.  The suspect, Jacob Rivera (18) was waiting for officers on the front porch and was taken into custody without incident.

The victim had been shot in the upstairs apartment, in the leg.  His wound did not appear to be serious.

The witness, who lives at 20 S. Denby, invited the victim over as a guest when Rivera showed up uninvited.  Rivera started going through the witnesses belongings and taking items.  She then asked Rivera to leave but he refused. He went through her drawers and found a handgun, then took it.

The victim tried to help get Rivera out of the apartment when he fired the gun, striking the victim. Rivera was interviewed at Police Headquarters then taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he was charged with Battery Committed with a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 Felony) and Battery with Bodily Injury (Class A Misdemeanor).
