Ristic Claims Silver in 200 Freestyle Hoosiers Stand Steady in Third

Day three of the 2021 Women’s Big Ten Swimming Championships saw two medals go the way of the No. 21-ranked Hoosiers on Thursday night. IU remains in third place with two days remaining at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

 

100 BUTTERFLY

Freshman Elizabeth Broshears finished t-sixth (52.81) in a loaded Championship Final field that saw Michigan’s Maggie MacNeil throw down the nation’s fastest 100 Butterfly time of the 2020-21 season.

 

400 IM

Senior Josie Grote finished with the bronze medal is a highly-competitive Championship Final with a career-best time of 4:07.99. She was narrowly out-touched (4:07.90) for second. Junior Mackenzie Looze finished sixth out of the A Final heat with a time of 4:12.13.

 

Senior Bailey Kovac picked up some valuable points by winning the Consolation Final with a time of 4:13.18. She used a strong kick in the freestyle leg to take over the top spot in the heat, winning by 0.01 seconds.

 

Out of the C Final, freshman Anna Freed took 24th with a time of 4:21.91.

 

200 FREESTYLE

Freshman Ella Ristic secured a silver medal with a time of 1:44.89, a career-best mark. She initiated the race pace for the first handful of laps before giving way to the eventual champion in the final 50 yards.

 

Senior Laurel Eiber and sophomore Ashley Turak finished 13th and 14th, respectively, out of the Consolation Final.

    • IU churned out five moreNCAA B Cut times in the evening session and two swimmers broke their career best marks.
