University of Southern Indiana Men’s Tennis earned a 5-2 Midwest Region win over Purdue University Northwest Saturday at the Evansville Tennis Center.
Freshman Dylan Brown (Evansville, Indiana) collected a straight-set win at No. 6 singles to clinch the win for the Screaming Eagles, who improve to 3-0 on the year.
USI began the day with a sweep of doubles play to earn the opening point of the match. Purdue Northwest (1-1), however, got wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to take a brief 2-1 lead in the match.
Juniors Parker Collignon (Owensboro, Kentucky) and Marvin Kromer (Dogern, Germany) got the Eagles back on top with straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, while Brown, who was playing his first collegiate match, stepped in due to an injury to secure the win at No. 6 singles.
Sophomore Lucas Sakamaki (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) put an exclamation mark on the win with a straight-set triumph at No. 5 singles.
Kromer and Sakamaki eached paced the Eagles with a paced the Eagles with a pair of wins on the day. Kromer teamed up with senior Yahor Bahdanovich(Minsk, Belarus) for a 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles, while Sakamaki teammed up with senior Spencer Blandford (Louisville, Kentucky) for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Senior Kooper Falkenstein (Jeffersonville, Indiana) and sophomore Preston Cameron (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) also had a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
USI returns to action March 7 when it travels to Hillsdale, Michigan, to take on Hillsdale College in a Midwest Region contest.
