Eagles set for three-game homestand this week

University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball is set to host three games at Screaming Eagles Arena this week, beginning Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. when the No. 14 Screaming Eagles host the University of Indianapolis.

USI (8-1, 8-1 GLVC) also hosts Quincy University Thursday at 5:15 p.m. and Truman State University Saturday at 1 p.m. Thursday’s game is USI’s Play4Kay game, which will see the Eagles wearing their pink uniforms to raise breast cancer awareness.

USI Women’s Basketball Notes (1/25/21)
• USI returns to court with two road wins.
USI Women’s Basketball returned to the court with a pair of GLVC road wins after having its previous three games postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. The Eagles began the week with a 64-59 win over Lewis Thursday before bettering Illinois Springfield, 77-71, Saturday.

• Last week’s leaders. Sophomore forwards Hannah Haithcock and Tara Robbe averaged 16.5 and 11.5 points per game, respectively, to lead the Eagles, while Robbe added a team-high 6.0 rebounds per contest. USI had five players with 8.0 points per game or better, with sophomore guard Addy Blackwell and senior guard Ashley Hunter each contributing 9.0 points per game. Senior guard Emma DeHart added 8.0 points per game and matched Blackwell with a team-high 3.5 assists per contest, while Blackwell and senior center Audrey Turner respectively led the Eagles with 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

• Regular-season sweep. With their wins last week, the Eagles completed regular-season sweeps over Lewis and Illinois Springfield. It marks the first two-game regular-season sweep of Lewis since the 2001-02 season.

• GLVC Point Ratings System. Despite the win Saturday, the Eagles dropped to second in the latest GLVC Point Ratings System (PRS) rankings, which determine the eight teams that will compete in the GLVC Tournament in March. The Eagles have a rating of 4.50, trailing only undefeated Drury (4.69). Truman State (4.41) is close behind USI, while Lewis (3.42) and Missouri-St. Louis (3.42) round out the top five teams. Lindenwood (3.29), Rockhurst (3.19) and Illinois Springfield (3.05) round out the top eight teams.

• USI ranked No. 14. The Eagles were ranked No. 14 in last week’s D2SIDA Top 25 Media Poll after debuting in the national rankings the previous week at No. 18. An updated ranking is due out Tuesday, while the WBCA Top 25 is set to debut at an unspecified date. Last week’s ranking was the highest for the Eagles since they were ranked No. 9 in Division II Media Poll February 20, 2018.
