Indiana University redshirt junior dive Andrew Capobianco, freshman diver Anne Fowler, and junior swimmer Jack Franzman were all honored as Big Ten Athletes of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

 Andrew Capobianco

B1G Men’s Diver of the Week

Capobianco did not miss a beat in his first meet since sitting out the 2019-20 season due to an Olympic redshirt. The Holly Springs, N.C., native won both the 1-meter (395.55) and 3-meter (467.93) diving events against Michigan and Northwestern. Both scores secured NCAA ‘A’ Standard marks for the reigning NCAA 3-meter champion. This marks his third Big Ten Diver of the Week award and first since Jan. 30, 2019. Capobianco is the first Hoosier diver since Mory Gould (Jan. 15, 2020) to win Big Ten Diver of the Week.

 Anne Fowler

B1G Women’s Freshman of the Week

Fowler came to Indiana with high expectations due to her performances at the prep level and did not disappoint in her Hoosier debut. She posted NCAA ‘A’ Standard scores in victories in both the 1-meter (308.18) and 3-meter (365.63) diving events against Michigan and Northwestern. This marks her first Big Ten award of her collegiate career and she is the first Indiana woman to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week since Cora Dupre on Feb. 5, 2020. She is also the first IU female diver to earn a weekly award from the conference since Jessica Parratto (Jan. 30, 2019) earned Big Ten Diver of the Week.

Jack Franzman

B1G Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Franzman won three events against Michigan and Northwestern, with two individual wins. He was the first to touch in both the 50 Freestyle (19.69) and the 100 Freestyle (43.52). He also anchored the winning 400 Freestyle Relay team (2:55.34). This marks his first Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award. Franzman is the first IU swimmer since Bruno Blaskovic (Feb. 5, 2020) to earn Big Ten Swimmer of the Week.

His times in both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle ranks as the second fastest time posted by a Big Ten swimmer during this competition season.

Indiana will be back in the pool on Friday afternoon for a dual meet against Ohio State at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center.
