On today’s date around 7:15 a.m., the Evansville Police Department was called to the 7300 block of Lincoln Ave., in front of Plaza Park School, for a motor vehicle accident where a small truck struck a pedestrian.Â
When officers arrived they discovered that an E.V.S.C. (Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation) teacher was struck by a vehicle while assisting children crossing the roadway in the school crossing zone. Fortunately, the driver was traveling at an extremely low rate of speed and the teacher was not severely injured. She was taken to the hospital, by ambulance, to be checked for minor bumps and bruising.Â
Because of the glare of the sun, the driver was unable to see the teacher in the roadway and wasn’t cited.Â
This is a reminder to people traveling through school crossing zones to slow down and be looking for pedestrians in the roadway before and after school.Â
