A special thank you to our Spiritual Care staff who continue to carry out our Mission of caring for the whole person – body, mind and spirit. Representing multiple denominations, their work brings the light of God into situations requiring their compassionate care. Despite the COVID-19 crisis, their much needed services have continued in new and innovative ways. Spiritual Care has continued to be provided 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
Lynel Beaty, Spiritual Care Manager, states:
“Being called into chaplaincy is a vocation that takes much praying, education and training. Even with all the training, when the pandemic came, chaplains had to quickly respond differently than before. Hospital chaplains are used to seeing patients and their families in the patient rooms, at the bedside. Now we are calling family members and providing care to them over the phone, realizing how difficult it is for them not to be here for their loved ones. In addition to calling, we have also facilitated communications via iPad to connect patients with their families. Some of the most difficult times have been patients being alone and not having family at their bedsides.
These several months have also been challenging for the medical staff that work throughout the hospital. Although chaplains provide ministry to staff, we have been more intentional with that ministry. We check in often with staff making sure they have someone to talk with about their fears, their own families and their spiritual needs. Additionally, we created a Centering Room just for staff to have a quiet place of solace when they need it. In the Centering Room, there is a fountain, soft music, resources such as pocket Bibles, mandalas and a prayer box where staff can place their confidential prayer requests in the locked box that is checked by chaplains.â€

Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital Evansville Patients Receive Special Surprise

Thank you, Kellie, for creating treasure boxes for our Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital Center for Children Evansville patients as part of your Girl Scouts Gold Award project. Kellie created the boxes for patients to take home after their visit to the outpatient pediatric specialty clinic, feeding program or behavioral health program. Our patients are already loving these little treats!
