In response to the continued racist post of Indiana State Representative James Lucas of Seymour, the Tri-State Alliance has started a fundraising campaign to counter his prejudice.
The Tri-State Alliance is asking organization to donate online to TSAGL.org/donate.html and putting James Lucas name in special instructions, OR send a check to the Tri-State Alliance, PO Box 2901, Evansville, IN 47728. TSA will split the funds 4 ways, to support its Southern Indiana LGBTQ youth group, to support its Southern Indiana Transgender Support Group, to donate to Planned Parenthood of Indiana / Kentucky, and to donate to various local Indiana chapter of the NAACP.
According to TSA Vice President Julie Robinson, “As we continue to see violence against minorities, it is important to call out racist elected officials like James Lucas who foster this atmosphere of hate and violence.†According to the Tri-State Alliance, they have also received reports of misogynist and anti-LGBT comments that have been made by Rep. Lucas on a frequent basis.
The Indiana State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has submitted a resolution to Gov. Eric Holcomb seeking the resignation and public censure of Rep. Jim Lucas, R-Seymour. “When so many Hoosiers are fighting, literally, for their very lives the time is now that divisive messages of hate, disrespect and disdain will not be tolerated by those who have taken an oath of office,†according to conference representatives. “We are better than this. We call upon you to send forth that message.â€
Lucas is being accused of racism after creating and posting an image of a group of black children dancing with the words “We gon’ get free money!†written on the photo on his Facebook page. The post went up at 9:04 p.m. May 11 and initially Lucas said he would not remove it.
It has since been removed after Lucas was removed from the interim study committees on elections and public policy and demoted as vice chair of the committee on government reduction, House Speaker Todd Huston said.
“I am not a racist,†said Lucas, who subsequently deactivated his Facebook page. Last year, he posted a picture of a gallows with two nooses under a WISH-TV Facebook story about a black man pleading guilty to rape.
Yeah, send money to TSA and we’ll get rid of racists and gay bashers? Riiight.
It is the economy stupid.
