USI finishes homestand with Truman State and Quincy Military Appreciation Day is Saturday

University of Southern Indiana Men’s Basketball finishes its three-game homestand Thursday and Saturday when it hosts Truman State University and Quincy University at Screaming Eagles Arena. Tip off Thursday versus Truman State is 7:30 p.m., while start time Saturday versus Quincy is 3:15 p.m.

USI will host its seventh annual Hoops for Troops Military Appreciation game Saturday to honor members of the United States Armed Forces when the Eagles host Quincy. Veterans, military personnel and their guests will receive up to five free tickets per veteran to the games with their military identification or proof of service at the front of the Screaming Eagles Arena ticket window. This event is sponsored by the American Legion Post 324 and the USI Student Veteran Association.

USI Men’s Basketball Week 10 Quick Notes:

USI wins third-straight to open homestand. USI extended its winning streak to three games with a 72-69 homestand opening win over McKendree University. USI had four players in double-digits, led by junior forward Emmanuel Little with 21 points. Junior guard/forward Clayton Hughes and senior guard Joe Laravie followed with 13 points each, while junior guard Mateo Rivera rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points.

USI in the GLVC. While the Eagles rose into a tie for sixth in the GLVC standings and two games out of fourth, USI climbed to sixth in the GLVC point standings that determine the qualifiers for the conference post-season tournament. The top eight in the point standings qualify for the GLVC Tournament in March.

Leading the Eagles in 2019-20. Junior forward Emmanuel Little leads four USI players averaging in double-digits with 15.9 points per game with junior forward Josh Price following with 13.4 points per outing. Little also leads the team with 7.6 rebounds, while Price follows with 7.5 per contest. Junior guard Mateo Rivera and senior guard Joe Laravie close out the USI double-figure scorers in 2019-20 with 11.9 and 11.7 points per game.

Little closing on 1,000 points. Junior forward Emmanuel Little is closing in on 1,000 points. He has 941 during his two-plus seasons. USI has had 20 1,000-point scorers in the history of the program. The junior forward also has moved into the top 10 in rebounding this season, ranking eighth with 591 boards.

USI leaders at home. Junior forward Emmanuel Little is USI’s top scorer at home with 16.6 points per game. Little is followed by junior forward Josh Price with 15.8 points per contest, while junior guard Mateo Rivera and senior guard Joe Laravie are posting 11.9 and 11.7 points per contest at home, respectively.

USI vs. Truman State. USI leads the all-time series versus Truman State University, 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the GLVC, after the only meeting last year in the Physical Activities Center, 80-65. USI also held a 5-0 series lead in the PAC. Junior forward Emmanuel Little and senior guard/forward Kobe Caldwell had 13 points each in the 2018-19 meeting, following guard Alex Stein’s team-best 25 points.

Truman State in 2019-20. The Bulldogs of Truman State enter Thursday’s game tied for second in the GLVC standings and fourth in the GLVC point standings with an 11-5 overall record, 7-1 in the league. Truman State won its last outing over Quincy University, 84-70, on the road.

USI vs. Quincy. USI leads the all-time series versus Quincy University, 32-10, after winning, 78-56, at the Physical Activities Center in 2018-19. The Eagles have had the advantage at home, 20-4, and in the GLVC, 30-8. Guard Alex Stein led USI in the 2018-19 victory with 19 points, while junior forward Emmanuel Little had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Quincy in 2019-20. The Quincy Hawks start the weekend 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the GLVC after falling to Truman State Monday. Quincy had won four-straight before the loss on Monday and visits McKendree Thursday before coming to USI.
