Chairman Parke withdraws Petition for 2nd Ward Recount
| Monday December 9, 2019On the advice of legal counsel and following the wishes of candidate Natalie Rascher, today I filed a motion to withdraw the petition for a recount in the City Council 2nd Ward race. Although we maintain there are irregularities with the some of the absentee ballots, the outcome of the election would most likely not change.
Natalie, her husband Zac, and the rest of her team are to be commended for her campaign’s effort in the razor thin loss for the 2nd Ward seat. It is my hope that Natalie will not let this deter her from seeking public office in the future.

First day of declaration of candidacy for 2020 Primary Election is Wednesday, January 8, 2020
| Wednesday, January 8, 2020 is the first day a declaration of candidacy for major political party primary nomination (or election as a Republican Party precinct committeeman, or state convention delegate of either major party at the primary) may be filed. It is also the first day a major party primary candidate for President or Governor may file a petition of nomination with a county voter registration office for verification of petition signatures. Refer to the Indiana Secretary of State Election Division’s Candidate Information web page for candidate forms and additional information.
Candidates for precinct committeeman must be a Qualified Elector of the precinct and a Qualified Primary Republican (or obtain authorization from the County Chairman). Candidates for precinct committeeman must file a CAN-37 form with the county clerk between Wednesday January 8, 2020 and noon Friday, February 7, 2020. Form CAN-37 can be found on the Secretary of State Election Division’s Candidate Information web page.
Republican State Convention Delegate Candidates must be a resident of the Election District and a Qualified Primary Republican. A declaration of candidacy for election as a state convention delegate (form CAN-37) must be filed with the county election board no earlier than January 8, 2020 and no later than noon February 7, 2020. All delegates will be assessed a $100 fee payable to the Indiana Republican State Committee to help defer State Convention costs.

Indiana House Republicans select State Rep. Todd Huston as next House Speaker (from 12/2/19 Press Release)
Indiana House Republicans met today at the Statehouse in Indianapolis and selected State Rep. Todd Huston (R-Fishers) to serve as the next House speaker.
House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) recently announced his plans to not seek re-election and retire after the 2020 legislative session. To smooth the transition, House Republicans gathered on Monday and chose Huston to serve as speaker-elect. He will work closely with Bosma during the upcoming short session and is expected to be sworn in as House speaker by the full House as session closes.  READ MORE

The 2020 legislative session formally kicked off recently with Organization Day. Each year it is a great opportunity for all state lawmakers to gather at the Statehouse and prepare for the work ahead.With Indiana’s low unemployment rate, strong economy and balanced state budget, our state is in a great fiscal position, and we look forward to continuing the momentum.
The upcoming legislative session will run from Jan. 6 through mid-March. Shopping cyber safe this holiday season (from 12/06/19 post) As you shop for gifts online this holiday season, the Indiana Department of Revenue (IDOR) is urging Hoosiers to take steps to be cyber safe and protect your identity online.IDOR is partnering with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to encourage online shoppers to be extra vigilant to help protect their important financial data.
The IRS and IDOR offer a variety of tips to help individuals protect themselves while shopping online, including:
- Use a credit card for online shopping.
- Be very cautious of “free offers” during the holidays.
- Avoid unprotected Wi-Fi.
- Shop at familiar online retailers.
- Learn to recognize and avoid phishing emails.
- Use strong and unique passwords.
- Use multi-factor authentication.

 Applications available for Indiana Senate Page Program

The Indiana Senate is now accepting applications for the 2020 Senate Page Program. Through the full-day program, students in grades six through 12 can tour Indiana’s Statehouse, listen to debates and help staff with age-appropriate tasks. Students also have the opportunity to meet with their state senator.
“ Moving a bill through the legislature can be a long and complicated process, and the Senate Page Program allows students to get an up-close look at what goes into accomplishing this task,” Tomes said. “I encourage all students in our area to consider paging with the Senate.“ The Senate Page Program will begin in January and run through early March. Positions fill quickly, so it is important to apply early. Pages are scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session. They begin their day at 8:30 a.m. and are dismissed at 3:30 p.m. Groups serve together on Wednesdays. Serving as a page is considered an excused absence from school.

Indiana Chamber Endorses Governor Holcomb for Re-Election
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is making only its second-ever endorsement in the gubernatorial race, supporting Governor Eric Holcomb in his re-election bid. The first time the organization made the call was in 2008 for then-Governor Mitch Daniels.
“We only make endorsements in statewide races in special circumstances. Governor Holcomb’s Next Level agenda has undeniably propelled the state forward in many meaningful ways. His leadership, drive and desire to bring people together to listen and learn have all been extraordinary,” says Indiana Chamber President and CEO Kevin Brinegar.

 November Job Gains Once Again Smash Expectations-The economy added 266,000 jobs in November, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) monthly Employment Situation Report released today. The job totals for September and October were also revised upward, leading to a total increase of 41,000 additional jobs.
. . . In the 36 months since President Trump was elected, the economy has created at least 100,000 jobs in 33 of those months and has added jobs every month. Considering the unprecedented length of the expansion and the 50-year low unemployment rate, continued job growth at this point again demonstrates that today’s labor market remains strong.
