INDOT offers scholarships, jobs to engineers in training:
(from 10/4/19 Newsletter)
The Indiana Department of Transportation is offering civil engineering students scholarships of up to $3,125 per semester, and paid employment during summer breaks and upon graduation.
Civil engineers perform the crucial duty of creating and maintaining our public infrastructure. Indiana is looking to invest $1 billion on a variety of road projects under a plan unveiled last year, and the next generation of workers must be trained and prepared to meet our state’s needs.
Applicants must be accepted or enrolled full time in one of Indiana’s certified civil engineering schools and apply using the form at www.INDOTScholarship.IN.gov. Applications for the 2020-2021 school year must be submitted by Dec. 31, 2019.  To learn more about the INDOT Engineering Scholarship Program and the application process, click here.
I encourage local students to apply for this opportunity to earn a scholarship and receive valuable on-the-job training as they prepare for their careers.

TOMES ADDRESSES HONOR FLIGHT MEMBERS:
(from 10/4/19 Press release)
State Sen. Jim Tomes addressed honor flight veterans and guardians Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum in Evansville. Tomes, an Army veteran, spoke to members ahead of their trip to Washington, D.C. Saturday, Oct. 5. Honor Flight members visit monuments and war memorials in the nation’s capital. Those on board the EVV 11 Honor Flight will receive a free photo album highlighting the trip. This is the 11th event Honor Flight Southern Indiana has sponsored in Evansville since 2014.
“The Honor Flight program is phenomenal,”Tomes said. “As a community, we have an opportunity to connect with the past and to thank the many men and women who sacrificed so much to serve our great country. This program provides veterans with an unforgettable trip, which is just a small fraction of what is really owed to them.”
