Obituary for Lawrence Edward Gumbel
Lawrence retired from the housekeeping department at Deaconess Hospital after 39 years of service; he was a farmer and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County.
He is survived by two sons, James (Jill Goodman) Gumbel and Matthew (Mercedes) Gumbel, both of Evansville; his mother, Marie Gumbel of Evansville; two sisters, Joann (Robert) Rentchler of Tennyson and Delores (George) Fuhrman of Evansville; his sister-in-law, Pam Gumbel of Seymour, IN and three grandchildren, Olivia Gumbel, Audrey Gumbel and Shiann Gumbel.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Nancy (Schnapf) Gumbel on April 2, 2019; by his father, Leo Gumbel and by a brother, Bernard Gumbel.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 10, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 6:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 3:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church Vanderburgh County.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh County 4H Center or to St. Joseph Catholic Church Vanderburgh County.
