Eagles Stranded By Panthers, 9-4
OWENSBORO, Ky. –  University of Southern Indiana Baseball left 10 runners on base in falling to Kentucky Wesleyan College, 9-4, Tuesday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky. USI moves its record to 26-19 overall, while KWC goes to 26-19.The Screaming Eagles fell behind in the opening frame as the Panther leaped out to a 4-0 lead. USI cut the deficit to 4-1 in the second when junior catcher Wyatt Daly  (Newburgh, Indiana) singled in senior first baseman Nathan Kuester  (Rockport, Indiana).KWC would respond in the bottom of the fifth with another four-run frame to rebuild its margin to 8-1. The Eagles tried to mount a comeback with a three-run sixth, leaving three on at the end of the inning, to cut the Panther advantage to 8-4. KWC would add one more in the seventh to round out the 9-4 final.Sophomore centerfielder Bryce Krizan  (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) led USI for the game at the plate with three hits and a RBI.On the mound, senior lefthander Chase Partain  (Evansville, Indiana) suffered the loss. Partain (3-5) allowed eight runs, seven earned, on five hits and two walks, while striking out three.Up Next for the Eagles:Â
The Eagles finish the 2019 regular season schedule May 3-4 when they host Maryville University for a GLVC three-game series at the USI Baseball Field. USI will celebrate Senior Day Sunday, honoring the eight seniors prior to the game.Maryville is sitting on top of the GLVC standings with a 22-8 conference record, while posting a 27-17 overall mark. The Saints have won their last nine games in a row, including eight-straight GLVC victories.USI holds a 5-1 series advantage over Maryville and will be facing the Saints for the first time since 2012. The Eagles and the Saints are tied 1-1 in games at the USI Baseball Field, splitting the two games in 2012.
