On May 17th, the Evansville Police Department was made aware of a complaint lodged with the EVSC Coordinator for Safety and Security. The complaint alleged that an EPD officer committed a battery against a student while working off-duty at an EVSC school.
A criminal investigation into the incident commenced immediately. The investigation did not result in any criminal charges being filed because the student’s mother told investigators she did not want to press charges. The mother did, however, file a complaint with the Evansville Police Department Internal Affairs Investigator.
An Internal Affairs investigation commenced at once and has been completed. The findings of the investigation have resulted in disciplinary recommendations from Chief Billy Bolin to the Police Merit Commission. The recommendations include suspension without pay for 21 days and that the Police Merit Commission consider dismissal of the officer. The Police Merit Commission can affirm Chief Bolin’s recommendations or implement lesser discipline. The Police Merit Commission’s next regularly scheduled meeting is Monday, June 10, 2013, at 2:00 pm.
The mother didn’t want to deal with the hell she’d go through if she pressed criminal charges. Do they release the facts of the investigation? If there was enough wrongdoing to justify Bolin’s recommendation he must’ve done something wrong.

Maybe the mom realized a criminal case could take over a year. Seems like she is getting the accountability she wanted in less than a week.
There’s been a recommendation. We don’t know the actual punishment. He could just be hedging knowing whatever committee decides this won’t actually follow through with that.
