UE Baseball falls to Indiana 5-0

On a night that saw one of the biggest crowds ever at Charles H. Braun Stadium, the University of Evansville baseball team couldn’t solve the riddle of Indiana pitching, getting shutout by the Hoosiers 5-0, Friday night.

1,367 fans saw a pair of scoreless innings to open the night, as the game appeared to be a pitchers duel between the Aces junior hurler Adam Lukas and Indiana’s Pauly Milto. However, the Hoosiers would break through on Lukas in the third on an RBI single by sophomore infielder Drew Ashley. making it 1-0 IU.

In the fourth frame, the Hoosiers would add to their pad. First, Matt Lloyd would tag Lukas for a solo home run to center. Then, later in the inning, Indiana would two aboard for Justin Walker, who would rope two-run single to left, extending the Hoosier lead to 4-0. Lukas would toss two scoreless innings after that, before being lifted after six frames of  work, striking out six on the night. Freshman Garrett Presko and senior David Ellis would close out the night on the hill for UE.

Meanwhile, the Aces struggled all night against Milto, as the righty went eight innings, striking out four, while scattering three Evansville hits.

The loss drops Evansville to 17-12 on the season, while Indiana improves to 21-12. The series now shifts to Bloomington for the final three games of this four game set, beginning tomorrow with a doubleheader. First pitch from Bart Kaufman Field is set for 1:05 pm.
