“READERS FORUM” APRIL 11, 2019

We hope that today’s “READERS FORUM” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

HERE’S WHAT’S ON OUR MIND TODAY

For the last two (2) decades the City Of Evansville has been living high on the financial hog because of the generous financial contributions of Tropicana-Evansville.  Looks like this generous financial arrangement may be about ready to end because Terre Haute could be approved by the State Legislature to open a $200 million state of the art Casino-Sports Books establishment in the very future?
We also have been told that the chances of Ellis Park being sold in the very near future to progressive owners are on the horizon.  Our elected officials also better take into consideration that the Kentucky Gaming Commission just give Churchill and Keeneland permission to build a $250 Harness Track/Casino in Oak Grove-Hopkinsville area. It’s also a concern that there is the chance of the Kentucky State Legislature approving Sports Books betting in the very near future is a strong possibility which could also challenge Tropicana-Evansville bottom line.
One would think that the Mayor would be extremely motivated to take on the establishment in order to force them to reinstate the States $6 million gaming stipend to offset the potential losses of Tropicana-Evansville once the new Terra Haute Casino-Sportsbook is built.  The reason why Mayor Winnecke should be motivated to do this is that as of February 28, 2019, the City Of Evansville had $10 million dollar spending deficit.
Because of some of our elected officials lack the political guts to take this issue head on it now looks like Tropicana-Evansville will now be in direct competition with well-financed and politically connected gaming establishments in Terre Haute and across the river in Kentucky.  Oh, just in case the Mayor and his political buddies in the Indy still want to do a “Gaming Impact Study” 2 or 3 years from now they can save time and money by reading the above information we just posted about the Tropicana-Evansville looming competition.

WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND TODAY?

Todays “Readers Poll” question is: Are you disappointed that State Rep; Holli Sullivan and Mayor Winnecke didn’t take a strong stance against a new casino being built in Terre Haute?

  1. When unvaccinated Jewish kids are more dangerous than unvaccinated illegal aliens
    By R.M. Doak

When Mayor de Blasio declares an emergency, then, by golly, it is truly an emergency. Notwithstanding the deluge of tens of thousands of illegal aliens streaming across the southern U.S. border and the president’s declaration of a national emergency to stem the flow, a mere 250 unvaccinated Yeshiva students in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn is a DEFCON-3, drop-dead emergency of the highest order.

Mayor Bill is demanding proof of immunization under threat of private school closures and fines of $1,000 per violator. “We have a situation now where children are in danger. We have to take this seriously. Every one of us has to feel responsibility for the situation because measles is so contagious, can spread so quickly,” de Blasio said at news conference at a Williamsburg library on Tuesday morning.

Of course, the same Mayor Bill recoils at the mere suggestion of demanding proof of citizenship from tens of thousands of non–U.S. citizens waltzing across the southern border…much less an immunization record from each. The leading cause of death for U.S. citizens under the age of fifty is not measles, but the illegal use of fentanyl, which pours in across the southern border by the truckload. Yet Brooklyn is under Mayor Bill’s martial law, while the border is come one, come all.

There is a workaround for families who wish to become Brooklyn “dodgers” of Mayor Bill’s vaccination crackdown: send the Yeshiva kids on a field trip to Mexico, and simply let them walk across the border back into the U.S. No one will dare ask them for their immunization record, and the cultural enrichment exercise will certainly merit extra credit.

    • JB (JethroBodine) is wasting all that comment space with his right-wing lies and slandering and slobbering over the Jewish families. Oh, the humanity, the horror, of copying and pasting all this radical right-wing crap, stealing space from pig73 and Burnie who go all aflutter when someone posts what their little narrow mind cannot handle. You are going to set Sole Faker back months in his mental recovery.

      Have you no decency?

  2. We in Evansville are fighting a losing battle. The city administration is spineless and totally inept when it comes to money. Secondly, Indianapolis thinks we are actually in KY, so why worry with Evansville. Even though we have a Lt. Governor from here, and state legislators from our area, the Indianapolis power group overrules the SW corner of Indiana. Having worked for the state over 36 years, I know how our area is thought of by Indianapolis. Alas, it is no wonder we had no support in gambling legislation.

  3. Maybe it’s time the local casino had some competition. In fact, it would be great if another Indiana casino was built in Evansville. If that were to happen (competition for the local casino), then maybe the local casino would start treating its guests better. If the local casino, and its new owners, learned to treat its patrons as well as French Lick, Harrah’s Horseshoe, and Harrah’s Metropolis do to their guests, then maybe it would enjoy a better reputation amongst its local patrons.

  4. Is It True Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nick Hermann has been spending a lot of off-work time at the local casino. And the company he’s been keeping at the casino would not look good on his political resume.

      • Not when players and staff alike acknowlege him. By the way, he’s got the ugliest legs I’ve ever seen on a guy. He should never wear shorts.

    • You’re not the only person that saw Mr. Hermann down there with his interesting friends gambling numerous times in the last several months. This is the man that’s supposed to be indicting people yet he’s fraternizing with this crowd? Shouldn’t this man be at home with his wife and kids?

    • What’s wrong with spending a little time at the casino? The man’s a self-promoter.

  5. Tropicana and the city aren’t getting $6 million of someone else’s money that they aren’t entitled to? GOOD!
