   Jussie Smollett Indicted on 16 Felony Counts in Hate Hoax Attack

   Empire actor Jussie Smollett on Friday was indicted by a grand jury in Chicago on 16 counts of felony disorderly conduct in connection to filing a false report about an alleged hate crime against himself.

   The development comes after the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a felony disorderly conduct charge against Smollett last month for allegedly filing a false police report on the January 29th incident. Smollett, who is African-American and gay, told police that he was assaulted while walking home from a downtown Chicago Subway sandwich shop. The actor claimed two masked individuals beat him, hurled racist and homophobic slurs, and doused him with an unknown chemical substance. Further, he alleged his assailants looped a thin rope around his neck and shouted “This is MAGA country” before fleeing the scene.

   According to a four-page court filing detailing the allegations against Smollett, prosecutors charge the actor hired brothers Abimbola “Abel” Osundairo and Olabinjo “Ola” Osundairo to help carry out the attack, directing them to buy masks and a rope at a hardware store. The court documents said Smollet instructed Abel Osundairo to “not hurt him too badly and give him a chance to appear to fight back.”

     I don’t regret believing Jussie Smollett and I won’t apologize, but I’ll admit if I was wrong. I will never regret believing Smollett, or any victim, and I have nothing to apologize for. I come from the school of always believing the victim, whether it be from sexual assault, violent hate crimes, hazing, or bullying, until proven that I shouldn’t. It’s the safest way to ensure we protect real victims

     The fact that Smollett faked the assault is despicable. But that doesn’t change the grim reality that real hate crimes are dramatically more common than hoaxes

     This means there’s a .001% chance that I might be wrong, but I will never let that outweigh the importance of supporting victims in their most vital time of need, especially victims who come from already marginalized groups like African Americans, the LGBTQ community, and other minorities

     The FBI and the Department of Justice released findings that show a 17% increase in hate crimes since Trump entered the race to become President. The data shows that the number of hate crimes had been dropping steadily since 2008 under President Obama, but made a sharp reversal upwards under Trump

     2015 – 5,850 hate crimes
     2016 – 6,121 hate crimes
     2017 – 7,175 hate crimes

     Data also shows there was an alarming 86% increase in anti-LGBTQ homicides from 2016-17

     52 people killed by anti-LGBTQ hate crimes in 2017
     71% were people of color
     52% were trans or gender nonconforming
     40% were trans women of color

     The above number of 52 does not even include the mass violence events like Pulse nightclub, and these numbers do not reflect the countless attacks that go unreported

     Trump and the right-wing live in glass houses and should be very careful to put on shoes before celebrating on top of so much broken glass and shards of hypocrisy. Trump MAGAt’s were giddy in their reaction to reports speculating about Jussie being a hoax. The GOP is making a grave error in treating this as validation that Trump supporters, not minorities, LGBTQ individuals, or other disadvantaged groups, are the people who are actually being persecuted

     The right-wing has always shown a dangerous tendency to doubt hate crimes and minimize their pervasiveness. Rather than try and find a solution to reduce and erase hate crimes, the GOP is always focusing the attention on the false cases instead of the ones that are real. Like the GOP obsession with fake rape allegations, the GOP obsession with fake hate crimes has the same result: discrediting the victims

     I was taught that if I was wrong I should admit it right away. I actually don’t find this difficult to do, but it’s not a common occurrence with Trump voters. While I will quickly admit if I misplaced my support, many of the Cheetolini backers still refuse to, despite mounds of evidence

     It’s simple statistics: The chance of a hate crime being real is exponentially higher (99.8% vs. 0.2%) than it being a hoax. But the right-wing, with their homophobia, racism, and bigotry, just continue to take their marching orders from Adolf Twittler as he perpetuates a dangerous worldview that the media is corrupt and the stories of racism and bigotry are better off not being believed

     Supporting Jussie and his initial story was because I stand in solidarity with the numerous victims of hate crimes and homicides (reported and unreported) around the world

     And I will not be shamed by the low-life hatred of you and those like you into turning my back on them

     These young men and women have the moral urgency of youth and the self-preservation instinct of all living things, and these “Climate Kids” recognize that either the industry goes or they do. And they are not giving up without a fight

     So go ahead and bury your head in the sand, because that way when your butt sticks up in the air, these kids know where to plan their big left foot

         Ball claimed that he was the first person to receive a PhD in climatology in Canada, and that he had been a professor for 28 years. Yet professor of environmental science at the University of Lethbridge countered not only had Canada already had climatologist when Dr. Crackpot got his degree, that Ball had only been a professor for eight years rather than 28 as he had claimed

         The professor went on to state that Ball “did not show any evidence of research regarding climate and atmosphere, ignoring the fact Ball’s PhD thesis in 1983 was on climate and weather”

         So Dr. Crackpot sued and got whacked out of Court when the statement of defense was provided by the Calgary Herald which stated that Ball “never had a reputation in the scientific community as a noted climatologist and authority on global warming” and that he “is viewed as a paid promoter of the agenda of the oil and gas industry rather than as a practicing scientist”

         In Court Dr. Crackpot Ball acknowledged that he had only been a tenured professor for eight years, and that his doctorate was not in climatology but rather in the broader discipline of geography, and subsequently withdrew the lawsuit

         In another lawsuit a judge noted that Dr. Crackpot Ball’s words “lack a sufficient air of credibility to make them believable and therefore potentially defamatory” and concluded that the “article is poorly written and does not advance credible arguments in favour of Dr. Ball’s theory about the corruption of climate science. Simply put, a reasonably thoughtful and informed person who reads the article is unlikely to place any stock in Dr. Ball’s views”

         I wonder why Dr. Crackpot Ball defends climate change so much. Wonder if it is because he receives funding from the fossil fuel industry, especially through the organization Friends of Science, which Ball co-founded and whose scientific advisory board he sits upon since Friends of Science receiveds a third of its funding from the oil industry

         Where is Dr. Crackpot Ball’s evidence? He questions the mainstream science and data, but his own presentation of data is incredibly limited (which perhaps explains his paucity of recent peer-reviewed publications). A real skeptic makes his own case. Dr. Crackpot Ball never does
