Alcoa reaches milestone, in business for 125 years

STATEHOUSE – State Representative Ron Bacon (R-Chandler) offered a House resolution today honoring the 125th anniversary of Alcoa Inc.

“I am especially proud to offer this resolution because Alcoa is the largest employer in Warrick County,” said Rep. Bacon. “The ability to be in business for over a century is remarkable. Alcoa, and its employees, should be proud of this accomplishment as all of us in the community look forward to their continued success and growth”

Alcoa has partnered with communities and invested more than $550 million through the Alcoa Foundation since its founding in 1952.

The company manufactures products for the aerospace, automotive, packaging and printing markets at three locations in Indiana. They employ 3,200 Hoosiers with operations in Lafayette, LaPorte and Newburgh.

“Alcoa is a leader in research, manufacturing and business for our state. For 125 years, they have been a catalyst in the economic development and betterment of communities throughout Indiana with the foundation and by employing thousands of Hoosiers,” said Rep. Bacon.

In 1886, Alcoa’s co-founder Charles Martin Hall, discovered an affordable way to produce aluminum through electrolysis that created the modern aluminum industry. To commercialize Hall’s discovery, the Pittsburgh Reduction Company was incorporated in 1888, and later renamed Alcoa. The company’s innovative solutions have revolutionized its markets, from aerospace and automotive to consumer electronic and packaging.
