The Evansville Fire Department is hosting a Fire Company Officer Development Course this week at their headquarters. The week long course is being taught by Chief Rich Gasaway. Chief Gasaway is a resident faculty member at the National Fire Academy located in Emmitsburg Maryland. His Fire Officer Development Courses include classes for the fledgling Company Officer to Chief Officers that oversee large emergency scenes or manage departments. This class, the third Officer Development Course Chief Gasaway has conducted for EFD and neighboring departments, is not just a lecture but has hands-on components and uses scenario-based exercises to test an Officer’s ability to think under pressure and use “out of the box†reasoning. The class will continue through the week and conclude on Friday afternoon.
I have scheduled 9 AM, Thursday morning as an interview time, in our classroom. An “interesting†class exercise takes place about 9:30, which I’m sure you’ll enjoy.
