Bucshon Holds U.S. Service Academy Day

Connects high school students with Service Academies

(Washington, DC) –Congressman Larry Bucshon held an Academy Day on Saturday, March 16, 2013 to connect high school students with information on applying to the U.S. Service Academies. The event was held Saturday morning at the VU Gibson County Center for Advanced Manufacturing & Logistics in Fort Branch, Indiana.

Congressman Larry Bucshon: “Our nation’s Service Academies are outstanding institutions for our nation’s future leaders,” said Congressman Bucshon. “Answering the call of service is commendable and beginning the application process to a Service Academy is truly a bold step on its own. I am honored to have the opportunity to help connect students with the necessary resources as they navigate this process.”

Two members of Congressman Bucshon’s U.S. Military Academy Advisory Committee also attended on Saturday.

Colonel Alan Pratt: “This is important because the Congressman is pulling together some students and giving them the opportunity to understand what the military academies are and what they’re about; what military life is and will be for them if they went into the military. A lot of the students don’t really know what’s available. It’s bringing the best students who have the highest academics, leadership skills, and physical abilities to join the military and be leaders of America. ”

Captain Charles LaSota: “It’s fabulous having someone like Congressman Larry Bucshon who takes such a strong interest in our youth and ensuring that the process by which we go and find those great young men and women who aspire to be leaders in our military. It’s great to have someone who has that interest. What he’s doing is really helping us to find the very best leaders and the best scientific minds for the future and helping them realize their dreams – to be able to meet the highest challenges by becoming a part of the service academies, but more importantly putting them on a path to being great future leaders within the military.”

Colonel Alan Pratt, USMC, is the Commanding Officer of NSWC Crane and Captain Charles LaSota, U.S. Navy retired, is the former Commanding Officer of NSWC Crane and currently the President of the Battery Innovation Center.
