After helping the No. 2-ranked Indiana University men’s swimming and diving team beat No. 1 Texas and No. 8 Florida last week, Vini Lanza and James Connor both earned weekly Big Ten honors on Wednesday, the conference office announced.

Lanza was named Big Ten Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Connor was named Big Ten Men’s Diver of the Week. The honors are the first this season for each.

Against the Longhorns and Gators, Lanza won two individual events and was a member of three winning relays. Lanza won the 100 butterfly (47.14) and 200 butterfly (1:45.27) with NCAA B cuts. Lanza’s mark in the 100 fly is tied for the best time in the nation this year, while his time in the 200 fly is the second-fastest in the country.

Lanza helped IU win the 200 medley relay (1:27.76), the 400 medley relay (3:11.38) and the 400 freestyle relay (2:54.78) as well. The Hoosiers’ times in the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relay are the fastest in the nation so far this season.

Connor kept his winning-streak alive, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events this past weekend, making him a perfect 4-for-4 this season. Connor posted NCAA Zones qualifying scores of 423.75 (1M) and 445.15 (3M) in his victories.
