AG Curtis Hill expresses support For Public Safety Officers

Attorney General Curtis Hill today expressed support for officers tasked with enforcing the nation’s immigration laws – namely, those working for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

In the fiscal year 2017, according to the White House, ICE arrested more than 125,000 aliens with criminal records.

“Among the crimes were roughly 48,000 assault offenses, 12,000 sexual offenses, 11,000 weapons offenses, and 1,900 homicides,” President Trump wrote in a recent letter to state and local leaders.

Like all police agencies, Attorney General Hill said, ICE and CBP deserve the nation’s gratitude. The actions of these officers, he said, help protect the safety of families and neighborhoods in Indiana and all across the country.

“Immigration has become a challenging issue for our nation as we seek to balance priorities related to border security with our compassion toward people from other lands seeking new beginnings in America,” Attorney General Hill said. “Whatever our individual policy views, however, we all should support with great respect the men and women who put their lives on the line to uphold our laws and keep Americans safe.”
