Otters fall 5-4 to Grizzlies in series opener

The Evansville Otters dropped the first game of a three-game series 5-4 to the Gateway Grizzlies at Bosse Field on Tuesday in front of 1,185 fans.

Gateway opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. After a triple from Terry McClure, Jonathan Piron grounded out to first which scored McClure from third.

The Otters tied the game in the third on a Brandon Dulin solo home run to right, his third of the year.

Gateway retook the lead in the fourth when McClure singled home Blake Brown.

The Otters responded in the bottom of the frame as a Travis Harrison ground out scored Jeff Gardner to tie the game.

The Otters took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. A sacrifice fly from Dulin scored Gardner and a single from Luis Vilorio scored Carlos Castro to put the Otters up by two.

Gateway tied the game back up with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh. An RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Artemis Kadkhodian brought the Grizzlies within one, and then a bases loaded walk to Trae Santos tied the game.

Gateway jumped in front when Kahkhodian walked with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth to force home the go-ahead run.

Brandon Dulin lead the way for the Otters offense, going 1-3, with 2 RBI and a home run.

Otters starter Randy Wynne received a no decision after throwing six innings and working in to the seventh while giving up four runs, three earned.

Grizzlies starter Max MacNabb also garnered a no decision after tossing 5.2 innings and allowing four runs.

Grizzlies reliever Pat Boyle is credited with his first win of the year after throwing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Tyler Beardsley is dealt the loss for the Otters after throwing one inning and allowing one run.
