The arrival of spring means farmers are returning to their fields for planting. Large, slow-moving farm equipment will be on the roads, and drivers need to be cautious.
The Indiana State Department of Agriculture offers safety tips to remind motorists to practice patience and caution when approaching farm equipment:
- Use caution when passing wide farm equipment that takes up most of the roadway;
- Allow plenty of time to get to your destination, becoming aware of alternate routes and avoiding distractions while driving; and
- Practice patience when waiting to pass a farmer. They will try to pull over to the side of the road to allow you to pass once it’s safe to do so.
If you to come across large farm equipment this planting season, please slow down and share the road to not only ensure your safety, but also the safety of our farmers.
