Evansville Police responded to an early morning double shooting in the 1500 block of Vann Ave. Officers arrived while shots were still being fired and detained numerous people. Officers recovered a handgun at the scene.
Officers found one shooting victim walking away from the area. The second victim was located at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Investigators attempted to get information from both victims, but neither were cooperative. Both declined prosecution.
Based on information gathered from at least one witness, police believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute between members of the L.A. Zombies street gang and another group of individuals.
Dispute the lack of cooperation from the victims, police will still pursue a case for Criminal Recklessness against anyone who fired shots during the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Evansville Police.
This area is rampant with criminal activity and primarily based out of the local apartment complexes:Arbors,Dalehaven,Embassy, and Savannah Gardens. The police department has increased patrols in the area following the October 26,2012 armed residential robbery on South Lombard and the December 30,2012 home invasion robbery in 2900 block of Ravenswood. What about a permanent police presence?
It was my understanding that the EPD was looking to open a new East side sector within McGary Middle School. http://eastside.14news.com/news/news/57661-epd-looking-open-new-east-sector-office Whatever happened to these plans? Perhaps instead of the middle school the EPD could approach BuyLow for usage of the vacant portion of their building. As others have mentioned on the C&P, regardless of the final location a police sector is very much needed in this neighborhood.
I agree with your assessment on where the East Sector office should be. The old Buy-Low is a GREAT idea! But I am not going to hold my breath. They just consolidated all of the Sector Offices into one. Why would they turn around and expand again? Some of the CPO’s have been re-gerrymandered too (based on different beats I believe).
This change is relatively new, but what I believe will happen is that we will see less officers on bikes in the neighborhood. What they saved on buildings and building maintenance, they may pickup on gas and vehicle maintenance for the extra miles driven. Not sure if the closing of the Sector offices was a good idea or not. From a neighborhood point of view…it was not a good idea. But financially better?!?

Years ago I lived close to Burdette and Riverside. We were having vandals. A neighborhood watch was started, signs went up, and they knew we were watching ready to report anything. It helped, infact a few moved on. The good people need to become involved with the good guys to stop the bad guys!
East sector should move back to the EAST SIDE……I’m sure one of the local apartment owners in that area would happly furnish space[ free] to improve that area.
