  1. The parks board should consider converting from gas chlorination to liquid sodium hypochloride at our public swimming pools.

    Gas chlorination can be extremely hazardous to humans and wildlife, and highly corrosive to the facility especially following mechanical malfunctions. Enclosed swimming pools, such as Lloyd Pool, are especially susceptible to the adverse effects of gas chlorination.

    Liquid chlorine can be purchased as sodium hypochloride, or converted from common salt (NaCl) on site and very economically.

  2. The parks board are taking quotes to hire someone to lock restrooms?

    Why can’t a full time member of parks staff do this?

    • It may be cheaper for the city to outsource this work than to deal with the union rules and attitude that comes with having staffers do it. Locking doors may not be in the official union job description.
