The Mole #??

IS IT TRUE we hear that 5th Ward Evansville City Councilman, John Friend, CPA has been urged to run for re-election as City Council Finance Chairman? …we hear that city council members are extremely pleased with the job Mr. Friend is doing in finding financial errors caused by past and past city controllers? …we predict that Mr. Friend shall be re-elected as city of Evansville Finance Chairman unopposed?

IS IT TRUE our “moles” tell us that an announcement from At-Large City Councilman, Dr. Dan Adams is coming soon about his intention to run for City Council Vice President? …that if he decides to run for this position he shall be elected?

IS IT TRUE that our “moles” tell us that City Council President, Connie Robinson is a shoe in for re-election to this position? …if this happens, we wish her well?

IS IT TRUE that County Commissioner President, Marsha Abell shall be re-elected to serve in that position for another year?

IS IT TRUE our “moles” are telling us that a change of new County Council leadership may be forth coming? …this change could see Tom Shelter, Jr. and/or Jim Raben give up a leadership position? …if this happens, the practice of leap frog leadership of County Council shall be over?

IS IT TRUE that tomorrow evening the Evansville City Council attorney, John Hamilton shall attend his last official council meeting? …the City County Observer would like to commend Mr. Hamilton for doing an outstanding job on behalf of city council and the taxpayers of this community?

IS IT TRUE that the Evansville City Council shall have a new attorney representing them starting tomorrow? …that the new City Attorney is none other than the well known and highly respected Scott Danks? …we can expect Mr. Danks to protect the financial and legal interests of city council starting day one?

  1. If Mr. Friend is re-elected Finance Chair and the State Board Supervisor who needs to take Speech 101 puts the same auditors on the City Audit next year, then I am reporting them all to the AICPA. You can’t have the same auditor for 20+ years and you can’t have a former-employee who’s related to someone high up in the City on the City audit and be independent. Mr. Friend comes in the independence issue because he is good personal friends with said auditor who has worked on the City audit for 20+ years.

  2. What “financial errors” did Mr. Friend find that someone else didn’t find first? ONB found the one error and he was asleep at the wheel for months and months as far as the city not balancing its books.

  3. Cesar Faison, you need to peace out.

John Friend never was told about problems with the city’s software package until around budget time. When he found out about it, he reported problem to the State. Mr. Friend didn’t hire Ms Collins so how can he fire her. Thats the Mayor job and not his.

Why don’t you sit back and see what Mr. Friend and Dave Garrett-CPA will find out concerning other accounting mistakes made by the past and present Mayors. After all said and done , I bet you change your opinion of Mr. Friend.

I do agree with the CCO comments about Scott Danks! He is indeed one heck of an attorney. Give him a little slack, please.

I also agree with your many posts concerning past City Controller, Jenny Collins women. Agreed with you that she needs to be fired.

    MERRY Christmas.

  4. All of these people have done such great work it only makes sense to return them to the positions they formerly held.

      • Pretty much. He was smart enough to not get involved in politics. I am really surprised Mr. Danks was interested in this job. Unless he has higher political aspirations also

        • Mr. Danks is very able and has much clout in the Democrat party. That is why the City council reached out to him to be their attorney.

  5. Grumpyolman, you got that right.

Also you wont see a deal happen like “Earthcare” under his legal watch.

    • The City Council attorney had nothing to do with Winnecke cutting the Earthcare deal and sneaking the $200,000 to them through the back door. When the Mayor does an end run around the council the council attorney is powerless to do a damn thing about it. Scott can’t stop such bull any more than you can.

      • You’re correct. However, the city attorney can recommend the mayor’s contract with Earthcare is reasonable or not and if it should be voided or not.

I gaurantee you if Scott Danks saw the Earthcare contract he would have recommended that council not approve it.

        • The council never did approve it and wasn’t asked to do so. What they approved was a $4.8 Million loan. The Earthcare deal was struck by Winnecke and GAGE on behalf of the council and the people of Evansville without sufficient vetting to go about choosing a pair of shoes. Once again, the city council attorney expressed no opinion and wasn’t asked for one. He could have come out after the fact and been vocal about second guessing the Mayor’s judgement. Do you think Mr. Danks would do such a thing?

  6. “Is It True” needs some lead in it’s pencil. John Friend is a manic, shoot from the hip, bumbling man trying to salvage a political career after 2 years of failure to recognize the most basic premise of his tasks was in shambles. He either knew, or is incompetent. You be the judge.
He is just the latest flavor of political hack thinking he can fool most of the people most of the time.

    • madk217 why do you continue to bash Mr. Friend? Once again my sources tell me that the new Mayor and his city controller kepted computer problems from Friend and the city council as a whole.

I hear damaging information about the Mayor and his controller financial cover ups shall come to light at the beginning of the year.

Also get ready to watch Mr. Friend expose the admended Johnson Control project that the new Mayor tryed to get the State Board to quietly approve this $54 million dollar pork barrel project.

Just keep calm and watch Mr. Friend work his magic.

      Merry Christmas!

      • Sorry if you think I am too harsh, but I cannot accept that he was Finance Chair all that time and did not even inquire about the City’s ability to account for it’s money. That is the foundation of which he accepted an appointment to uphold. Had he not sought and attained that position by representing himself as competent to do so by way of his professional credentials, I might be more lenient.
