We hope that todays “IS IT TRUE” will provoke “honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way”?

 IS IT TRUE that the Evansville city employees hospitalization fund has being insufficiently funded over several years? …the city’s hospitalization fund, from which city employee medical claims are paid, could have a negative balance of  several millions of dollars at the end of this year?  …we can’t wait to read the “question costs” comments concerning this issue in the soon to be published Indiana State Board Of Accounts Audit review?
IS IT TRUE that the City of Evansville has allowed the EPA to pussyfoot around with the lead contamination issue in the Jacobsville area for 18 years? …the real tragedy is that lead poisoning can be treated, but any damage caused by contaminated lead cannot be reversed?
IS IT TRUE the Evansville/Vanderburgh County Convention and Visitors Bureau funds from the Innkeepers Tax which is paid by people when they stay at our local hotels? …this fund generates many millions of dollars a year?  …these funds are easy pickings for the fun and games crowd because the people of Evansville don’t even think about what  could be done with this money? …we are told that Convention and Visitors Bureau board didn’t donate any money towards the funding of Trolley of Evansville Districts campaign? …that Convention and Visitors Bureau board did not allow members of the Franklin Street Events Association or GAGE to present there funding request to their board?…Its time that members of our local media start paying closer attention to the financial activities of  the Convention and Visitors Bureau board?
IS IT TRUE yesterday Republican Vernon Stevens  announced that he will run for the District 2 Vanderburgh County Commission seat?  … Mr. Stevens said “he will focus on making things more affordable for county residents”?  …Vernon Stevens public service in Evansville and Vanderburgh County spans nearly 30 years with involvement in several community clubs, festivals, and the Chamber? …the other announced candidate for the District 2 County Commission seat is well known businessman Steve Hammer?
IS IT TRUE the City County Observer is somewhat distressed over the number of shootings and beatings that are happening in Evansville that are being reported?…nary a day goes by that some poor soul gets shot in either the South Side or downtown  Jacobsville?  …our local first responders are doing one heck of a job in chasing down the bad people that are responsible for these criminal acts?
IS IT TRUE that the latest dream of professional sport in Evansville is that maybe, just maybe a professional soccer team would draw enough fans to make an impact?…last year around 60 soccer enthusiasts gathered to watch a big game at RiRa’s and someone hatched the idea of an Evansville based pro soccer franchise?…if the group grows to around 600 enthusiasts it may be the start of something good?
IS IT TRUE soccer is an international sport and the Evansville area has enjoyed some very good high school teams and even several state championships?… it would cost very little to start a semi pro soccer team, but we had better knock those “we gotta build a new soccer stadium” smiles off the faces of the elected officials before they jam another wasteful taxpayer financed dream team down the people’s throat? …it just might be time for area soccer enthusiasts to start discussing this idea in earnest?
IS IT TRUE that an indoor and a outdoor football has failed twice due to excessive expenses?…the indoor Evansville Bluecats were a respectable team that failed due to financial problems?…the outdoor football Evansville Vipers were championship contenders but couldn’t draw a paying crowd?
IS IT TRUE that there have been plenty of different semi pro and even pro sports franchises in Evansville?…the most recent examples of attempt at being a sports centric metro took a back seat when the Evansville Icemen contract was not renewed?  …then followed the Evansville Thunderbolts that is seemly is slipping on the ice at the $127 million downtown hockey rink?
IS IT TRUE the Evansville Otters Otters continue to provide very good sports entertainment but are dependent on the generosity of the sponsors to sustain themselves?

  1. On Indiana jobs, a Carrier/Indiana update:
    One year ago, right here in Indiana, President Donald Trump stood before hundreds of cheering Indy Carrier workers and declared that he had saved those jobs from moving to Mexico.

    Presskey, JoeBiden and the Sharpie guy have vanished from here…and you know why? They are embarrassed. The Trump fans don’t want to talk about Trump. Carrier is shipping those jobs to Mexico after all. Indiana’s Carrier announced that more than 600 workers are being laid off shortly, with the last line scheduled to work their final shift right after the Christmas holidays.
    You don’t have to be a Trump-hater to agree that is total bullshit. Stood there, stood there and lied.

    Trump ain’t done you know. You people, you do know Trump is promoting to have your mortgage deduction go away, your ability to write off your property taxes is going away too. Corporate tax rates are being reduced to 20%! That money will come from somewhere. Your taxes are going up, and you are cheering.
    Dumb.

    • I agree with you on the Carrier analysis. With regards to the mortgage interest deduction, it is nothing but subsidized banking as interest is their income. The write off allows banks to charge more. Even though it will cost me some money I agree with the elimination of that deduction and the elimination of state and local taxes as deductible. That one subsidizes high tax states at the expense of low tax states which is blatantly unfair. Both will hurt me, but I am willing to bear the burden in the name of simplification and fairness in tax policy.

      • Good analysis. The bankers and the realtors and residents of high tax states may not like it but that is what it is; subsidized high tax states (east coast primarily and Illinois and Michigan and Californication) and a marketimg gimic for banks and realtors.
        Time to come back to the real world people.
        Now, if we can get rid of the individual income tax system in it’s entirety and go to a VAT system. And then get rid of the blatantly obscene and biased property system that is prevalent in this county and go to a equal force everyone flat rate occupancy tax… That would be the next great steps.

        And “Mack” must be a realtor or a mortgage specialist at a bank. He,sees,hos,fatted,cow disappearing…

  2. Ain’t nothing for sure except death and taxes. It is time for reform and simplification of our out of control tax structure. Quit listening to the left and right. Let the congress settle on a plan. Only at that time will anyone know what is in the plan. If you want to bitch after that, bitch at the pols that put it in place and vote them out. Quit watching tv ads.
