Halloween is right around the corner, and while it’s great to have spooky fun with friends and family, we also need to remember to be cautious.
Please keep these simple, yet important, tips in mind when trick-or-treating:
Trick-or-treat during designated hours in our community;
Children should avoid trick-or-treating alone and always walk in groups or with a trusted adult;
Review with your child how to call 911 should they ever have an emergency or become lost;
Stop at familiar homes where the outside lights are on and walk, don’t run from house to house;
Remind children to never enter the homes or cars of strangers;
Carry a flashlight to help you see and to help others see you;
Inspect candy and only eat factory-wrapped treats; and
Do not eat anything homemade from strangers.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that on Halloween, children are more than twice as likely to be fatally hit by a car than on any other day of the year, so motorists need to use extra care and be mindful of the increased pedestrian traffic
