Eagles fall in season finale to McKendree, 2-1

The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team dropped the regular season finale to McKendree University, 2-1, Wednesday evening at Strassweg Field. USI goes to 8-5-4 overall and 6-4-4 in GLVC play, while McKendree ends the match 12-2-3 overall, 9-2-3 in the league.

The Screaming Eagles struck late in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Junior midfielder Olivia Wilde (Racine, Wisconsin) found the back of the McKendree goal at 39:55 after sophomore midfielder Caroline Canoy (St. Peters, Missouri) sent a corner kick into center of the field and freshman forward Ashley Hayes (Evansville, Indiana) lob the ball into box.

The second half was all McKendree. The Bearcats tied the score quickly to open the final half, scoring at 45:57, before getting the game-winner at 67:03. USI had four shots in the final 23 minutes, but could slide the ball into the back of the McKendree goal.

With the loss, USI will be the fifth-seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament that is slated to start Sunday. The Eagles will on the road for the first round, visiting Bellarmine University. Kickoff time is to be announced.
