On Saturday, July 29, 2017 at approximately 1:23 PM, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff Office responded to the area of Shoshoni Lane and Cherokee Drive to investigate a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Deputies arrived on scene and learned from witnesses that a man had been struck by a dark colored passenger car. The suspect vehicle reportedly fled the scene after the crash. A relative had already rushed the victim to the hospital prior to the deputies arrival.

Deputies later spoke to the victim, who explained he had been riding with an acquaintance, Mr. Nicholas Patrick Heard, when they began arguing. The victim allegedly grabbed Mr. Heard’s keys, exited the vehicle and began walking away. The victim recalled hearing a car engine rev and then remembered flying through the air after being struck by Mr. Heard’s vehicle. The victim sustained abrasions, cuts and a possible concussion.

Deputies began searching for Mr. Heard and located his grey 2017 Chrysler 200 sedan at his residence on Meridian Avenue. The front windshield was broken and the vehicle showed signs of an impact. Mr. Heard was ordered outside the residence and surrendered without incident.

Mr. Heard is lodged at the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of Battery with a Deadly Weapon as well as several outstanding bench warrants.

ARRESTED:
