IU’s Hixon Qualifies for 1-Meter Dive Final at FINA World Championships

Indiana University diver Michael Hixon had a great showing in the 1-meter dive quarterfinals on Friday at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest Hungary.

Hixon, diving for Team USA, placed fifth overall in the quarterfinals with a total of 384.80 to earn a spot in Sunday’s 12-diver championship final, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET.

After a first-round dive of 43.50, Hixon scored no less than 63.00 points on his final five dives, including a list-best mark of 73.10 on his sixth and final attempt.

Diving for Team Australia, IU’s James Connor placed 26th overall in the 1-meter dive with a total of 323.40.

Hoosier divers will be back in action on Saturday at the 2017 FINA World Championships, as Hixon will dive in the 3-meter synchro (4:00 a.m. ET), while incoming freshman Andrew Capobianco will compete in the 10-meter mixed synchro (7:00 a.m. ET).
